OSSI PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings! On behalf of OSSI and the organizing committee of OSSICON 2024, I would like to welcome you to Kochi for the upcoming OSSICON 2024. Unlike other years, this OSSICON has been specifically planned not just for OSSI members or practicing bariatric surgeons, but for postgraduates and other laparoscopic surgeons who are still wondering what bariatric surgery is or should ever be doing it. Bariatric Surgery is one of the most rapidly growing specialties in the country with tremendous growth opportunities. With bariatric surgery now evolving to a treatment modality for medical diseases like type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea, PCOD, etc, the possibilities are abundant. Over the years, OSSI has grown stronger and stronger and is one of the most dynamic surgical societies in the country today. With our journal (JBS), virtual academy, fellowship program (FMBS), registry, etc, we have one of the most academic/inclusive societies today. Dear Friends, It is a great honor and privilege for me to invite you all to the OSSICON 2024 in Kochi, the twenty-first National Conference of the Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society of India. The scientific program will be very comprehensive and focused on updating, investigating, and better understanding the widest array of topics in the field of the growing adiposity-based chronic diseases, through postgraduate courses; symposia; expert talks; discussion panels; live workshops; video sessions; paper and poster presentations; emerging, endoscopic and new technology sessions. The aim of the conference is to educate on all the bariatric and metabolic surgery topics as well as to unite across country borders healthcare professionals from different specialties, in our fight against the adiposity epidemic. You will be welcomed with the famous Kochi warmth and with the art of hospitality that Kochi always offers to its guests. Kochi has a rich and diverse history, with a blend of Indian, Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences. The city has several historic monuments and buildings, including the Fort Kochi area, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
