The period from 2019 to 2022, has changed everything around us: with time itself now divided into a ‘pre-COVID’ era and the ‘post-COVID’ age. As doctors and oculoplastic specialists, we were in the eye of the storm during each of the multiple waves we saw. While humanity collectively fought through the scourge of COVID-19, there were some catastrophes that were more ‘local’ than global, such as the dreaded Mucormycosis. This chilling disease brought India into the limelight, which in turn put the focus on the Oculoplastic community.

In doing so, we not only raised the bar of how we treat the disease, but we worked with our colleagues in allied specialties effectively and we changed the trend and techniques of how this disease was treated. We also witnessed how multiple specialties could come together to bring about a paradigm shift in management. We came together as a group, in large numbers, and put our results on the global stage.

The last time our oculoplastic community in India met in person to discuss, debate, and deliberate was nearly three years ago in Guwahati in 2019. So now, for the first time in three years, we are gearing up to welcome you to the city of dreams, Mumbai for ‘EyeWitness’: the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Oculoplastics Association of India (OPAI). The organizing committee of Eyewitness 2022 has clear goals for this conference: we discuss science, variations in treatments, newer innovations, and the ability to work with various specialties!
